Widby Lifts Chihuahuas to 7-4 Triumph
The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Iowa Cubs, 7-4. First Baseman Bill Widby deserved a large share of the credit. Widby went 2-2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 5 for the Chihuahuas. The win went to Frank Scola in relief. His record improves to 9-4. Brad Danforth took the loss. Mark Carnathan earned the save, his 12th, for the Chihuahuas.

The game turned with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Widby hit a grand slam home run off Brad Danforth. It propelled the Chihuahuas into the lead, 4-0.

Widby said afterward that "winning, obviously, is the main objective."

The Chihuahuas improved their record to 54-53 by beating Iowa.
