Starting pitcher Jared Savage pitched well enough to help the Las Vegas 51s beat the New Orleans Zephyrs, 4-3. Savage went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 10-4. At 53-55, the 51s claim third place in the Pacific Conference South Division.
Las Vegas used the timely hitting of Yutaka Higashi to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the 51s on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We played hard and won," said Savage. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
