Zephyrs Deal Chihuahuas 3-2 Defeat
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the New Orleans Zephyrs and El Paso Chihuahuas.

The El Paso Chihuahuas got a sterling performance from pitcher Matt Zmuda, but the New Orleans Zephyrs still prevailed, 3-2. Zmuda threw 5.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The winning pitcher was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Eddie Martinez. He tossed 112 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits.

New Orleans took a 3-0 lead on Scott Frates's 10th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Frates hit in the bottom of the seventh, left El Paso pitcher Jose Perez visibly frustrated.

"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Frates told the New Orleans Chronicle.

The second-place Zephyrs now have a win-loss record of 53-57.
