River Cats Spellbound, Spann Hurls No-Hitter
|
The Oklahoma City Dodgers were just hoping for a solid outing from Ted Spann. Instead, they got something special.
The 23-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Sacramento River Cats, helping the Dodgers take the 1-0 win.
"I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Dodgers. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
Spann's repertoire has a slider, curveball, cutter, and changeup, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Sacramento hitters off balance all game long. The Oklahoma City hurler fanned 8 and walked 1 in his history-making performance.
"His slider looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," Sacramento manager Brian Johnson joked after the game.
In 17 starts this season, Spann has rung up a 6-7 record and a 4.65 ERA.
