Cheney Stadium was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.

In a tight affair between the Tacoma Rainiers and the Nashville Sounds, pitcher Josh Gordon was in the zone. The Tacoma right-hander helped his team win the game, 2-1. The third-place Rainiers improved to 60-53.

Early in the game, center fielder Jose Mendez had a 2-run home run for Tacoma. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Rainiers on top, 2-0.

"Tough loss," said Nashville manager Victor Santillanes. "But that's how the chips sometimes fall."
