Chihuahuas Get 5-2 Win Versus Iowa
|
The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Iowa Cubs, 5-2, at Southwest University park. Jose Nunez, who is tied for 9th in the PC in RBI with 63, was a standout performer for El Paso. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 1 he knocked in. El Paso reliever Kyle Pierce picked up the win. Alex Gutierrez, who is tied for 9th in the AC in quality starts with 11, took the loss for Iowa. The Chihuahuas sit in first place in the Pacific Conference South Division with a record of 78-36.
Ryan Giardina contributed to the El Paso win with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
