Rainiers Curb Zephyrs, 5-1

The Tacoma Rainiers picked up a win at Cheney Stadium, taking down the New Orleans Zephyrs, 5-1. Starting pitcher David Morse was a big reason why. Tony Parra closed the game out for Tacoma, earning his 1st save. With this game in the books, Tacoma is 54-61, New Orleans 52-63.
The Zephyrs had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Rainiers going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old catcher Juan Valdez came to the plate. Valdez hit a run-scoring triple on a 2-0 fastball from New Orleans hurler Jose Chavez. It was Valdez's 2nd triple of the year.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Valdez said.
