Late Heroics Net Redbirds 2-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring contest, Memphis pitcher Ray Blasetti was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 2-1 win. Marcus Schubert earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. The Redbirds, now 66-49, have won 6 in a row.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Memphis second baseman Danny Vance, facing John Stark, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Redbirds the 2-1 win.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Redbirds manager Roy Ofstad.
