Win Goes to Chihuahuas in Tight Contest
|
Though he had a great game, Matt Mountain could not single-handedly produce a win for Reno. El Paso won the game, 2-0. Mountain threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball. With the win, the Chihuahuas have a record of 56-61.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Kurt Jones came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Reno pitcher Will Cascalho, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting El Paso on top, 1-0.
"Watch and learn," said Jones. "This is what good pitching looks like."
