The Round Rock Express, despite a fine performance by Colorado Springs pitcher Mike Resop, grabbed a 3-2 win at Security Service Field. Resop allowed 1 run over 7 innings. Round Rock reliever Jordan Pena snagged the win, upping his record to 4-3. Kenny Ward shouldered the loss. Gerardo Lujan recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 12 for 15.
Round Rock won the game in part because of Billy Thompson. The center fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Express ahead, 3-1. For the game, Thompson had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"The Express earned it," said Colorado Springs manager Mike Leffel. "Hats off to them."
With the win, Round Rock goes to 60-61, while the Sky Sox fall to 59-60.
