Aces Knock Off Bees at Smith's Ballpark
|
Reno pitcher Bubba Schmitz had a large part in his team beating the Salt Lake Bees, 5-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Schmitz, now 7-10, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The save was credited to Elard Spierenburg, his 11th.
Jim Paquet had a big solo home run for the Aces in the top of the first inning. With Reno leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Josh White, who is tied for 4th in the PC in quality starts with 13, and punished it. The result was his 13th home run of the season, which put the Aces on top, 2-0.
Reno manager Jose Heredia commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
The last-place Aces now sit at 47-75.
