In a tight game between the Salt Lake Bees and the El Paso Chihuahuas, nobody was more important for the winners than Bobby Newman. Newman was masterful in the 2-1 win. The last-place Chihuahuas hiked their record to 59-65.

The Chihuahuas got a big hit from designated hitter Chris Pitts. Facing Salt Lake pitcher Tsuyoshi Higashi in the bottom of the fifth, Pitts pounded a run-scoring double to left-center. His 14th double of the season put the Chihuahuas ahead, 2-0.

"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Salt Lake manager Aaron Hunt. "We just didn't cash in."
