Though he had a terrific game, Joe Kauppinen could not prevent his team, the Las Vegas 51s, from absorbing a loss. El Paso won the game, 5-3. Kauppinen was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jose Perez, the winning pitcher, is now 2-5. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 1. Emanuele Delmonico, credited with the save, is now 12 for 15 in save opportunities.

El Paso used a clutch at-bat from Jose Nunez to capture the win. The right fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Chihuahuas ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"We'd like to put some distance between ourselves and the rest of the division," said Nunez.

The setback makes Las Vegas 74-54.
