Chihuahuas Stun River Cats, 5-2
|
Sacramento got a big-time effort from pitcher Rod Strader, but it wasn't enough to keep the El Paso Chihuahuas from winning the game, 5-2. Strader threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Travis LeBlanc, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2107 draft, was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Tyler Giannini. Their 66-67 record puts the Chihuahuas last in the Pacific Conference South Division.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when designated hitter Jason Meertens, who is tied for 8th in the PC with a .854 OPS, hit a single. The Chihuahuas went on to win.
"It wasn't a very good day at the ballpark," said Sacramento manager Brian Johnson.
