In a tight tilt between the El Paso Chihuahuas and the Sacramento River Cats, Willie Guzman was the deciding factor. The El Paso right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Guzman got the win, improving to 3-8. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 5.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Carlton Dunsmore nailed down the save.

The River Cats had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Chihuahuas going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old left fielder Sam Baia came to the plate. Baia hit a 2-run double on a 1-2 fastball from Sacramento hurler Brandon Banks. It was Baia's 32nd double of the year.

"It was a good effort all around," said Guzman.

At 64-70, El Paso is in third place in the Pacific Conference South Division.
