Colorado Springs Sky Sox starter Miguel Ortega pitched his team past the Nashville Sounds, 3-1. Ortega yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 11-7. Colorado Springs, at 74-61, holds down third place in the American Conference North Division.
Colorado Springs used a well-timed hit by Jose Montanez to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Sky Sox ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Colorado Springs manager Dustin Kent said.
