Sacramento River Cats pitcher Chris Sherwood was in top form, leading his team past the El Paso Chihuahuas, 2-1. Yohsuke Otake earned the save for Sacramento, his 17th of the year. The River Cats raised their record to 77-64.

Sacramento took the lead, 2-1, on Kyle Phillips's 29th home run of the season. The solo home run came off El Paso pitcher A.J. Harbst in the top of the eighth.

"Tough win," said Phillips. "We had to earn it."
