The Lynchburg Hillcats got a sterling performance from pitcher Miguel Gauna, but the Carolina Mudcats still prevailed, 4-3. Gauna threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Seth Tursi finished to wrap up his 1st save. Carolina goes to 2-0.

Had Glaucio Aspera not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Aspera hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Mudcats.

Aspera told a Carolina Times reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
