The Charlotte Knights received a superlative performance from starting pitcher Mark Ayers, allowing them to bump off the Gwinnett Braves, 3-0. The win hiked the Charlotte record to 40-35.

Ayers was the winner. He's now 7-5, after putting the Gwinnett offense in a vise grip. Over 8.1 innings, he gave up no runs on 2 hits, while racking up 6 Ks.

"Mark giving us the start that he did was huge," said Charlotte manager Nick Zlomke.
