Mark Ayers, who is tied for 7th in the IL in quality starts with 11, played a key role in a gritty 1-0 Charlotte Knights win against the Indianapolis Indians. Today's win puts Charlotte at 42-38, while Indianapolis falls to 37-43.

Charlotte used the timely hitting of Bill Owry to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Knights on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We were trying to do a difficult thing -- winning a game without scoring," said Indianapolis manager Rene Almanza. "That's not going to work out."
