Behind an impressive start by Vic Torres, Syracuse beat Buffalo, 3-2. Torres got the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Torres allowed 2 runs. Dave Driskill sewed up the save, his 12th.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Chiefs grabbed the lead when Pat Esker rapped a two-out single. Syracuse was trailing 2-1, when Esker hit a 2-run single off Brian Hawkins to put his team in front, 3-2.

"Tough loss," said Buffalo manager Clayton Beaulieu. "But we'll learn from it."

The Chiefs saw their win-loss record go to 42-38. At the same time, the Bisons fell to 51-30.
