Knights Deal Clippers 3-0 Setback
The Charlotte Knights knocked off the Columbus Clippers, 3-0, in International League action at BB&T Stadium. Charlotte pitcher and Deerfield Beach, Florida, native Mark Ayers had an outstanding performance. Ayers, the winner, moves to 9-5. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 3 walks. Tony Ponce De Leon closed out the game, earning his 18th save.

The Knights got a big hit from second baseman Jason Reihl. Facing Columbus pitcher Dustin Brace in the bottom of the sixth, Reihl pounded a 2-run double to left-center. His 8th double of the season put the Knights ahead, 3-0.

Afterward, Columbus manager Toby West said: "We were guessing wrong on pitches, and that's something we've got to get away from."

The first-place Knights, at 48-42, lead the South Division by 2 games.
