3-1 IronPigs Win over Braves Evens Season Record
|
Gwinnett got a decent performance from pitcher Matt Murphy, but it wasn't enough to beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Lehigh Valley won the Coca-Cola Park contest, 3-1. Murphy threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Carlos Gil, the winner, is now 1-3. He struck out 2 and walked 3 over 5.1 innings, while allowing 1 run on 6 hits. Tom Fetherolf nailed down the save.
The IronPigs got a big at-bat from shortstop Tony Fernandez. For the game, Fernandez was 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Lehigh Valley a 3-0 lead.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Fernandez told the Lehigh Valley Chronicle.
Gwinnett falls to 8-12.
