Clippers Cut Down Red Sox, 8-4
|
The Columbus Clippers picked up a win at McCoy Stadium, taking down the Pawtucket Red Sox, 8-4. Starting pitcher Tom Martin was a big reason why. Martin yielded 2 runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 10. His record improves to 12-4. John Wordell closed out the game, earning his 9th save.
In the bottom of the eighth, Chad Tillis stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Red Sox were trailing 7-4, but had the bases loaded. That's when John Wordell made a terrific pitch and Tillis struck out. Gone was the dream of a Pawtucket comeback.
The win puts the Clippers at 56-45, while the Red Sox drop to 48-53.
