Gwinnett Beats Charlotte, 5-1
|
The Gwinnett Braves picked up a win at Coolray Field, knocking off the Charlotte Knights, 5-1. Starting pitcher Dan Saltzman was a big reason why. In 7 innings, Saltzman surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. With the win over Charlotte, the Braves improved to 59-50.
Nick Barner had a big 2-run home run for the Braves in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Gwinnett trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a screwball from 27-year old left-handed pitcher Dwayne Redmond and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Braves on top, 2-1.
"Dan is pitching with a lot of determination and a lot of fire," said Gwinnett manager Danny White.
