Mud Hens Coast to 12-2 Victory
|
Tony Magana led Toledo to a win over Columbus. The final score was 12-2. Magana collected 3 runs batted in, while going 3 for 4 at the plate. The catcher also scored 2 times. Jake Melton, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Clippers to 2 runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Toledo has a record of 56-53, placing them third in the West Division.
The Clippers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Mud Hens going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old first baseman Jon Longstreth came to the plate. Longstreth hit a grand slam home run on a 0-1 fastball from Columbus hurler Jay Pritchett. It was Longstreth's 2nd home run of the year.
"We can't expect to win," said Columbus manager Toby West, "with that kind of performance."
