Chiefs Beat IronPigs, 3-2
|
Syracuse pitcher Terry Gordon had a large part in his team subduing the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Pete Pritchett earned the save for Syracuse. Syracuse, at 58-53, is 3 games up in the North Division.
Had Manny Alas not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Alas hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Chiefs.
"Terry pumped strikes and he made good pitches when he had to," said Syracuse manager Phil Burkel.
