Indians Knock Off Mud Hens, 9-3
|
The Indianapolis Indians defeated the Toledo Mud Hens, 9-3, at Fifth Third Field today. Leading the charge for Indianapolis was second baseman Santos Vazquez. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Picking up the win was Bill Gourd. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. The right--hander struck out 2 and walked 1. Taurino Ramirez recorded the save, his 2nd.
In the top of the first of a scoreless game, Vazquez hit a 3-run home run to put his team ahead.
"We'll savor this win," Vazquez told the Indianapolis Citizen, "then get ready for the next game."
At 61-50, the Indians are currently first in the West Division.
