Clippers Lose at Home, 9-2
|
Huntington Park was the site for International League action featuring the Columbus Clippers and Toledo Mud Hens.
The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Columbus Clippers, 9-2, at Huntington Park. Casey Peterson, who is tied for 4th in the IL in triples with 6, was a standout performer for Toledo. His 4 hits included 2 singles and 2 doubles -- this in addition to the 3 runs he scored and 1 he knocked in. Ben Johnson, the winning pitcher, is now 1-1. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while fanning 7 and walking 2.
Matt Koch had a big bases-clearing double for the Mud Hens in the top of the first inning. With Toledo leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 34-year old left-handed pitcher David Avery and swatted a double to left. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mud Hens ahead, 5-0.
"We didn't help ourselves, it's as simple as that," said losing manager Dan Goldthwaite.
Toledo has run its win streak to 5 in a row.
