Indians Drop Chiefs, 4-3
|
Indianapolis beat Syracuse at Victory Field, eking out a 4-3 win. The triumph was primarily due to left fielder Sean Carpenter. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Reliever Jay Badeau picked up the win. His record improves to 4-2. Matt Arnett, who is tied for 3rd in the IL in holds with 8, took the loss. The first-place Chiefs now sit at 68-48.
Pat Wood drew 1 walk for Indianapolis. The 25-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Matt Arnett. It was his 48th RBI of the season.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Indianapolis skipper Rene Almanza. "I can't complain."
