Indians Top Chiefs, 3-2
|
The Syracuse Chiefs got a superb performance from pitcher Santos Nunez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Indianapolis. The Indians won the game, 3-2. Nunez threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs. Indianapolis pitcher Dale Lydon got the win. He's now 3-4. Steve Jordan was tagged with the loss. The Indians move to 66-52 with the win, while the Chiefs drop to 64-54.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Indianapolis second baseman Santos Vazquez, facing Steve Jordan, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Indians the 3-2 win.
During his postgame press conference, Indians manager John LaRossa told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
