Louisville got a terrific performance from pitcher Mike Oestreich, but it wasn't enough to beat the Syracuse Chiefs. Syracuse won the NBT Bank Stadium contest, 3-2. Oestreich threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The win was credited to 24-year old right-handed pitcher Bryan Trevino in relief. His record improves to 5-4. Mel Valdez took the loss. The Chiefs improved to 62-56.

The climactic moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Syracuse. That's when 22-year old left fielder Cesar Licon hit a 2-run home run off Mel Valdez to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Licon said.
