Schmidt Stars as Clippers Top Red Sox, 5-1
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Columbus Clippers and Pawtucket Red Sox.
The Columbus Clippers dealt the Pawtucket Red Sox a 5-1 loss at McCoy Stadium. Nick Schmidt was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. With the win, Columbus raised its record to 64-54.
Chris Roberts went 1 for 3 with a walk for Columbus. With one out and the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Roberts had a clutch at-bat. Facing Pawtucket hurler Donovan Scott, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Clippers a 2-1 lead.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Schmidt told a local reporter after the game.
