In a tight contest between the Charlotte Knights and the Columbus Clippers, Corey Smith was the determining factor. The Charlotte right-hander sparkled in his team's 3-2 win. Charlotte is now 53-66.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Jason Stanzione came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Columbus pitcher Zach Cooper, he hit a 2-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Charlotte on top, 3-2.

"Well, it's always frustrating to lose," said Columbus manager Dan Goldthwaite.
