The Gwinnett Braves topped the Syracuse Chiefs, 5-4, in International League action at NBT Bank Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Gwinnett pitcher Luis Ferreras. Gwinnett is third in the South Division with a record of 64-56.

Ryan Leese had a big solo home run for the Braves in the top of the fifth inning. With Gwinnett leading 4-2 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Freddy Janoff and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Braves on top, 5-2.

"Luis never lets off the gas," said Gwinnett manager Nate Bouse. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
