Martinez Leads Bats to 8-1 Win Over Chiefs
The Louisville Bats topped the Syracuse Chiefs, 8-1, at NBT Bank Stadium. Louisville catcher Franklin Martinez was a spark plug for the offense. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Roger (Eben) Penn picked up the win with 9 innings of work. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 3-2. Martinez contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Louisville in the top of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Martinez took a fastball from Mike Carr and stroked the home run to right. His 11th home run of the season allowed the Bats to leap in front, 2-1.

"We didn't play well enough to win," said Syracuse skipper Phil Burkel.
