Syracuse beat Columbus at NBT Bank Stadium, eking out a 3-2 win. The win was due in large part to left fielder Ryan Carey. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3. Vic Torres was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Johnny Reed earned the save for Syracuse, his 7th of the year.
Randy Marsh, the Syracuse second baseman, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 2-1, Chiefs. For the game, Marsh went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Syracuse manager Ernesto Miramontes. "It's usually not just one thing."
Syracuse currently is in third place in the North Division at 66-56.
