On Road, Indians Top Braves, 3-1
|
Clodio Benido pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Gwinnett Braves, despite Benido's fine outing, dropped a 3-1 decision to the Indianapolis Indians at Coolray Field. The winner in relief was Preston Berrie. He is now 7-5. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. After today's action, Indianapolis sits at 70-55, while Gwinnett falls to 72-53.
Jon Velasquez, the 24-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Velasquez contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Indianapolis up, 3-1.
"Every loss stings," said Gwinnett manager Stephen Swagerty. "This one is no exception."
