The Charlotte Knights topped the Norfolk Tides, 4-1, in International League action at Harbor Park. The standout performance belonged to Charlotte pitcher and Cloverdale, California, native Corey Smith. In 7.1 innings, Smith surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 11 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Chad Bergeron picked up the save, his 3rd.

The Knights had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the seventh. The score was 4-1, Charlotte, with no one out. Norfolk, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. William Villa dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch fastball, he lined out.
