The Syracuse Chiefs racked up a win at NBT Bank Stadium, bumping off the Scranton WB RailRiders, 5-0. Melvin Vasquez, who started for Syracuse, pitched effectively for his team. The winning pitcher was Vasquez, now 4-5. He tossed 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. The first-place Chiefs improved to 69-61.

Niko Von Meyer had a big bases-clearing double for the Chiefs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Syracuse leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Matt Radl and swatted a double to center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Chiefs ahead, 4-0.

"Melvin was throwing free and easy," said Syracuse manager Phil Burkel.
