The Indianapolis Indians took Mike DeRieux's best shot and still were able to collect a win at Victory Field. The final score had Indianapolis getting past the Mud Hens, 3-2, in 10 innings. DeRieux over 7 innings allowed 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 10. With the win over Toledo, the Indians improved to 64-67.

Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, 24-year old left fielder Sam Garrett had a chance to be the hero. Toledo pitcher Phil Richeson wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Garrett drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Indians had themselves a thrilling win.

"Took some scratching and clawing," said Garrett. "But we got it done."
