Bats Score Late, Topple Clippers, 6-3
|
Louisville beat Columbus on the strength of starting pitcher Jack McDowell's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-3. McDowell went the distance for Louisville. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. With this game in the books, Louisville is 74-61, Columbus 53-82.
Joe Ray drove in one run for Louisville. The 27-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Kyle Fruge. It was his 17th RBI of the season.
Louisville manager Isaac Moles was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
