Red Sox Sink Chiefs, 4-2
|
The Pawtucket Red Sox picked up a win at NBT Bank Stadium, defeating the Syracuse Chiefs, 4-2. Starting pitcher Lee Gasser was an essential part of his team's success. Gasser yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 16-9. The 4th-place Chiefs dropped to 68-68.
Pawtucket used a well-timed hit by Alex Ruiz to capture the win. The third baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the first inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Lee did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said Pawtucket manager David Larson.
