The exploits of center fielder Ricardo Mendoza, who is tied for 7th in the IL in doubles with 36, helped the Syracuse Chiefs defeat the Buffalo Bisons, 9-1. Mendoza went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The third-place Bisons dropped to 73-63.

With Syracuse trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Mendoza hit a 2-run single off Buffalo hurler Glen Trecker. It was the 109th hit of the season for Mendoza and put his team ahead, 2-1.
