Brian Groeschen of the Norfolk Tides was on top of his game.

The 24-year-old tantalized the Gwinnett Braves with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.

"He had the changeup working," Gwinnett manager Danny White said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Norfolk hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.

Groeschen told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

So far this year, Groeschen has made 17 starts, tossed 124.2 innings, struck out 138 batters and walked 70. His record is 13-1 with a 2.02 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .200 batting average.
