Yankees Lose, 6-2, in 11
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Staten Island Yankees home opener. Earl Pipkin started for the home team against Paul Osteen for the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Yankees were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-2, Brooklyn, in 11 innings. Paul Osteen, though, was impressive.
Osteen, a native of New York, was dealing all game. He kept Staten Island hitters off-balance, while giving the Cyclones 7.2 quality innings. Osteen threw 90 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 7.
"Paul has got a slow heartbeat," said Brooklyn manager Bernie Palma. "He doesn't panic or anything."
