Firkus in Fine Form in 3-1 Win
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers home opener. Matt Fici started for the home team against T.J. Firkus for the West Virginia Black Bears. The Scrappers were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 3-1, West Virginia. T.J. Firkus, though, was impressive. Gary Chinnici earned save number 1 this season.

Mahoning Valley had little success against Firkus and his curveball. Firkus tossed 100 pitches over 7 innings for the Black Bears.

Firkus attributed the win to his team's "concerted effort."
