Black Bears Get Past Mahoning Valley, 2-1
Fans of the West Virginia Black Bears who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a West Virginia win over the visiting Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 2-1. Alex Montanez started for the home team against Orlando Lamboy. Orlando Lamboy earned accolades for his performance.

The Black Bears got a clutch hit from left fielder Sam Garrett. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Black Bears.

"The crowd was juiced," said Garrett.
