The 2108 season did not get off to quite the start the State College Spikes had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The final score was 6-4. Second Baseman Scott Keys was the top performer for Williamsport. Chris Pasquini picked up his 1st save of the season.

Keys had a game-changing triple in the top of the seventh. On a 1-2 fastball from Mike McKim, he banged a bases-clearing triple to right, giving the Crosscutters a 5-3 lead. It was the 1st triple of the year for Keys.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Keys told the Williamsport Daily News. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
