The Tri-City ValleyCats took Connecticut pitcher Jesus Rayas's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The final score had Tri-City getting past the Tigers, 5-4. Rayas went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 5. Rich Liverman, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. The defeat makes Connecticut 0-2.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Tri-City third baseman Jim Unknown, facing Orlando Vigil, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the ValleyCats the 5-4 win.

"This place sure got loud," said Eddie DiGiovine, the Tri-City manager.
