Fisher Cats Drop Close One Late

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats could not turn a fine performance from pitcher August Wichsberger into a win. Instead, the Portland Sea Dogs prevailed, 5-4, in 10 innings. Wichsberger threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Jon Lazos earned the save, his 2nd, for the Sea Dogs. The 5th-place Sea Dogs improved to 26-32.
Portland used a timely hit from Dennis Brunell to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Sea Dogs ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"Took some scratching and clawing," said Brunell. "But we got it done."
