The Akron RubberDucks took Portland pitcher Adam Spiller's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Canal Park. The final score had Akron getting past the Sea Dogs, 5-3. Spiller went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 4. Jake Wahlstrom, the winner, goes to 3-3. He allowed 3 runs on 11 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts over 7 innings. The third-place RubberDucks are 29-32.

The RubberDucks beat the Sea Dogs in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Jerome Bathgate produced in the bottom of the seventh. Batting against Reeves, Bathgate gave his team a 4-3 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Bathgate said. "That's how it goes."
